What a year 2020 was! Lockdown one saw the photographers take matters into their own hands by launching doorstep family shoots to provide themselves with income after many didn’t receive any help from the government. This isn’t something I didn’t do myself but it was something I definitely wish I had. With lockdown 2 pending I decided providing I was allowed I would create a Christmas version. It felt selfish of me to pocket all the profit from a 10 min job so decided I would donate 50% to charity. I picked the Lewisham Trussell Trust (which is a food bank) and the Samaritans suicide helpline. I picked these because in the state of the current world, covid has caused many people to lose their jobs and livelihoods, this may have meant many people may have had to find themselves using a food bank to provide their family with food. I once heard (unsure whether it’s true not not I don’t know, but it wouldn’t have surprised me if it was) that suicide had killed more people in lockdown than covid. The lack of freedom, Isolation, being locked away and unable to leave would have been detrimental to many’s mental health. I can’t begin to imagine the pain people would have gone thorough if they were having a mental health crisis in lockdown. Thanks to 9 wonderful families in my local area over 3 weekends they have helped me raise £118 in total with £108 going to the Lewisham Trussell trust and £10 going to the Samaritans helpline.
